Paintbucket Games
Based in Berlin, Germany

Founding date:
April 24, 2018

Press / Business contact:

Septembertal is a historical farming RPG that combines a  tale of a struggling German village after World War I with classic farming and crafting mechanics.

You take on the role of a young war-survivor who leaves turmoil Berlin to rebuilding her grandfather’s farm in Septembertal. Democracy is still new and fragile and you learn that conflicts that divide the country also divide the village of Septembertal.

What will you do? Will you manage to bring the people together for a common goal or will you deepen the conflicts?

A new era dawned - can it last?

Who we are

PaintBucket Games is an indie game studio based in Berlin founded by Jörg Friedrich and Sebastian St. Schulz.

We are two former AAA developers with more than 18 years of experience.
In 2017 we decided, that it wasn’t enough for us to work on just great games but that we wanted to make great games with a message and make the world a little bit better by it.

Today a diverse team of 12 is working at Paintbucket and develops small yet impactful games with a  strong focus on narrative.

What we did before Septembertal

  • Sebastian and Jörg worked together at YAGER on SpecOps: The Line and Dead Island 2 (Design Director/Co-Art Director)
  • Paintbucket’s first game THROUGH THE DARKEST OF TIMES was released globally in 2020 for PC, Mac, mobile and consoles.
  • THROUGH THE DARKEST OF TIMES  won  "Best Indie Game" and "Best Story" at the German Developer Awards, "Best Serious Game” at the German Computer Game awards and it was nominated at The Game Awards for “Games for Impact”.

State of the game

The game is still in an early stage of development, but a demo can already be played during events.

Where you can meet us

We are a proud member of Saftladen Berlin, a collective of indie game developers that is home to some great Berlin indie studios and solo developers and is located at the heart of Berlin close to Alexanderplatz.
